Approval of Genuity™ SmartStax™ Technology Clears Path for PRIDE G8 Hybrids
Multiple Modes of Insect Control Leading to Reduced Refuge Requirement Provides
Double Benefit for Producers
Chatham - The announced approval for Genuity™ SmartStax™ all-in-one trait technology by Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences has cleared the path for the introduction of new PRIDE® G8 hybrids. “The regulatory approval for Genuity SmartStax represents a tremendous and historic breakthrough for corn producers given the agronomic and performance advantage this trait platform will provide,” notes Stephen Denys, Vice President of Sales and Marketing with PRIDE Seeds.
“The Genuity SmartStax trait platform will be fundamental to our new PRIDE G8 hybrid family. PRIDE G8 hybrids will combine best in class genetics with the Genuity SmartStax trait package together with new and advanced seed treatment technologies,” says Denys. He notes that PRIDE Seeds works with multiple trait providers through one of the largest corn breeding and testing programs in the world. “Based on our research SmartStax will provide producers with the most comprehensive plant protection and yield benefit that we have seen to date.”
“PRIDE G8 hybrids featuring Genuity SmartStax will build on the performance advantage PRIDE Seeds is already providing producers through the PRIDE G3 system featuring YieldGard VT Triple,” adds Denys. “In fact, for the majority of producers in most maturity ranges, PRIDE G3 hybrids will remain the premier performance package over the next two seasons as we integrate Genuity Smartstax into our product portfolio.” Denys says PRIDE G3 hybrids provide a yield and agronomic advantage on either rotated ground or in corn on corn situations that adds bushels and dollars to the bottom line. “This is a proven system for increasing yields and profits.”
“We see two key advantages with PRIDE G8 hybrids as we move forward,” says Jon Klapwyk, Manager of Product Development and Agronomy for PRIDE Seeds. “The first is a yield benefit from using a more comprehensive trait program that provides multiple modes of action on several insect pests. This includes corn earworm and Western bean cutworm that are controlled with this technology. The second is the yield benefit from reducing refuge acres from 20 percent to 5 percent on SmartStax planted fields. The refuge reduction will alone contribute a 5% to 10% yield advantage while protecting an additional 15% of acres from targeted pests. As part of this transition however we urge growers to discuss details of managing this refuge requirement with their PRIDE Seeds dealer. On PRIDE G3 and other trait versions producers will need to continue with their traditional 20% refuge strategies.”
“Producers should ask their local PRIDE Seeds’ dealer or talk to any one of the PRIDE team members at the Woodstock Outdoor Farm Show about the advantages that new PRIDE G8 or PRIDE G3 hybrids offer for the 2010 season and beyond,” adds Klapwyk.
